$2 million grant to support 2021 Solheim Cup spared state budget cuts

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the $2 million grant kept aside for Destination Toledo for promotion and facilitation of 2021 Solheim Cup was cut off from the state’s final budget. However, the same has now been restored.

As per the statement made on Monday by State Representative Lisa Sobecki, Ohio’s fund control board has ensured that there will be ample funding after the halt was lifted. This fund shall come from the Sports Event Grant Fund acquired by the state to help the locally established organizing committees to secure any major event related to sports.

With regards to the popular Solheim Cup, the biggest event for women’s golf, which is supposed to commence on 31st August at Inverness till 6th September 2021, Destination Toledo acquired a notice that they had been awarded this grant on the month of September 2019.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on the United States, and the majorly hit economy led to the halt of this grant. State officials searched for different ways to cut off the overall budget throughout the board. This was also informed to Destination Toledo that the fund is set to be rescinded.
