Petra Kvitova in the year 2020
2020 was a fairly decent year for Kvitova. She managed to reach the quarters of the Australian Open 2020 but lost to World No.1 Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.
She took revenge on Barty by defeating her in the semis of the Qatar Open 2020. But, she couldn’t keep her calm in the finals of the tournament where Aryna Sabalenka thrashed her in straight sets.
Wimbledon 2020 couldn’t take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s surely her favorite tournament as both of her Grand Slam triumphs have come on Wimbledon’s grass court.
When tennis resumed after the long break, she played some great tennis at the US Open 2020. However, she lost to Shelby Rogers in the Round of 16 stage in a close contest. She didn’t take part in the Italian Open 2020 and tried her luck at the French Open 2020.
Surprising all her critics, she was dominant in the tournament until she faced Sofia Kenin in the semi-finals. Before that match, she had not lost a set. Unfortunately, Kenin defeated her in straight sets, denying her the opportunity to play her first French Open final.
Kvitova has decided not to play any other tournaments before 2021. She will surely eye the Australian Open title early next year. It is still 3 months away, and fans definitely expect Kvitova to bounce back in 2021.
