Central Park mugger who stole phone nabbed: cops

Cops have collared a homeless man who allegedly punched a woman and snatched her phone in Central Park, police said.

Gerardo Rosario Cruz, 53, was arrested Sunday evening and charged with second-degree robbery, according to the NYPD.

Cruz allegedly swiped the 40-year-old woman’s phone around 10 a.m. Friday while she was sitting on a bench and texting, cops said.

The victim chased after Cruz, but he clocked her in the face, knocking her to the ground, police said.

Cruz ran off, but a good Samaritan chased him down and was able to retrieve the woman’s iPhone 11, police said.

Witnesses snapped photos of Cruz as he fled the park.

Sources say cops were able to identify him because he was wearing the same clothes Sunday.

Police say the female victim, 40, chased after Cruz, who then allegedly punched her in the face. A good Samaritan also chased after the accused mugger and was able to retrieve the woman’s phone.
