Driver arrested for fatally striking 69-year-old NYC woman

A Mercedes driver was busted for allegedly fatally striking a 69-year-old woman outside her Brooklyn home while making an illegal U-turn, cops said Wednesday.

The 65-year-old driver, Gittie Klein, was heading west on Avenue M in Midwood just before 5:30 p.m. before she attempted a U-turn on a red light at East 12th Street — striking 69-year-old Bella Wolman with her 2020 Mercedes sedan, cops said.

Wolman, who was walking north on East 12th Street and trying to cross Avenue M in the marked crosswalk, was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Klein was arrested on scene and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian, a traffic device violation for disobeying a red light, failure to exercise due care and making an illegal U-turn in the wrong lane.

Hours later in Manhattan, a 40-year-old motorcyclist was fatally struck by a Honda SUV, driven by a 25-year-old woman, on the southbound FDR Drive near East 36th Street around 11 p.m., cops said.

The Honda driver was heading south in the left lane of the FDR when she struck the Harley Davidson motorcycle, sending the driver hurtling from his ride, police said.

The SUV then struck the median and overturned, cops said.

Both drivers were taken to Bellevue Hospital where the man was pronounced dead and the woman is listed in stable condition, authorities said.

No arrests have been made in that incident.
