Former Penguins general manager Ron Hextall is taking a boatload of criticism after an incredible article penned by Rob Rossi and Josh Yohe for the Athletic revealed damning actions he took during his time in Pittsburgh.
Hextall was fired of his duties as general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins on the first day of the offseason. It was coming : the Pens failed to reach the postseason for the first time in 17 years and the article on what the GM pulled off in his time at the helm reveals how toxic it was in Pittsburgh these past seasons.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently looking for a new GM and there is no way Hextall will get a shot after this. Hextall butchered his own team’s ending this season at the trade deadline and teams around the NHL are well aware of it.
Fans made it even cleared on Wednesday after the article on his disastrous time as Penguins GM went viral. They want him never to be allowed in the NHL.
While Brendan Shanahan did mention he will seek an experienced general manager after shockingly showing Kyle Dubas the door last week, he can consider hiring Hextall. Right? But the thing is Hextall has been mentioned on a list of names that would fit the requirements of the Maple Leafs.
But you have to imagine that after the Athletic’s article and the comments from the fanbase, Toronto will not go there.
