IPL 2023: Cameron Green will give you runs if you play him at No. 3, says Aakash Chopra after MI’s win vs LSG

By India Today Sports Desk: Former India batter Aakash Chopra said that if Mumbai Indians play Australia all-rounder Cameron Green at number three regularly, then he will give them runs. Green scored a 23-ball 41 as MI beat Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator of IPL 2023.

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said MI halved Green’s stature when they moved him down the order, insisting that he would score runs if played regularly at number 3. Green has scored 422 runs in 15 matches this season, while also hitting his maiden IPL century.

“Cameron Green scored runs. Another story is that if you play him at No. 3 regularly, he will give you runs. You yourself halved his stature when you moved him down the order. It is not enjoyable when you send him down the order,” said Chopra.

He went on to heap praise on MI’s left-handed middle-order batter Tilak Varma, saying he batted well and is a shining star. Varma has scored 300 runs in 10 matches this season, at an average of 42.86, while striking at 153.85.

“After that, Tilak Varma was fit and came to bat. He batted extremely well. He is a shining star. Suryakumar Yadav batted for a short while, but he also batted well. So both of them batted well and then Nehal Wadhera came in the end and did a great job,” Chopra added.

Chopra also hailed MI’s scouting system, saying they know how to pick a mix of young and big-name players for their squad. MI beat LSG by 81 runs at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai to move on to the second Qualifier of IPL 2023.

“Whether it is Wadhera, Tilak Varma or Akash Madhwal, this team has shown that they pick big players by spending huge sums – Ishan Kishan at 15.25 crores, Rohit Sharma at 16 crores and Cameron Green at 17.5 crores – but the real team is prepared through scouts. You will have to praise Mumbai, they do very good scouting,” said Chopra.

Following their win over LSG, MI will turn their focus towards defending champions Gujarat Titans, with the two sides set to clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023 on May 26.
