Miykiah Sneed sentenced for fatally stabbing man she said abused her

A Michigan woman who admitted to fatally stabbing the father of her child as he choked her was sentenced to seven months in jail.

Miykiah Sneed, 23, was sentenced Thursday by Jackson County Judge Thomas Wilson to 210 days in jail and 36 months of probation in the November 2019 stabbing death of 26-year-old Malik Dearing, MLive.com reported.

The pair had a child together and Sneed was pregnant with a second when she stabbed Dearing during an argument that turned physical, according to previous testimony in the case.

Police said Sneed, of Jackson, stabbed Dearing once in the chest while he was choking her and the woman later testified she felt her life was in danger at the time.

“If I did not stab Malik, I was going to die,” Sneed previously said in court.

Sneed, who fled after stabbing Dearing, told investigators he told her he would have killed her if she wasn’t holding their baby at the time, MLive.com previously reported.

The couple’s disputes had turned physical before, Sneed said.

Sneed was arrested the morning after the deadly stabbing and would’ve likely had a “plausible” self-defense claim had she stayed on the scene as cops arrived, Wilson said.

Dearing, meanwhile, could have survived his injuries with immediate medical help, a medical examiner previously testified. But police said he was reluctant to go to a hospital, where he died shortly after arrival, MLive.com reported in 2019.

Sneed, who was initially charged with felony homicide manslaughter, pleaded guilty in October to a lesser charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, according to MLive.com. She had faced up to 10 years.
