The University of Northern Colorado football program announced the addition of two new defensive players this week.

Linebacker Sione Tuha comes to Greeley from Utah, where he spent two seasons with the Utes. He did not see any game action in 2020 or 2021.

Coming out of high school, Tuha received All-Region First Team honors and recorded 56 total tackles in his senior season. He also contributed three interceptions, eight pass breakups, a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

The team also added Darren Mercer, a transfer from Citrus College. He played in 18 games for the Owls in two seasons. Mercer contributed 38 total tackles, 11 breakups, four interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The Bears begin their season on the road Aug. 31 against Abilene Christian.

UNC’s wrestling team also signed a new face for the upcoming season in Adam Busiello. Busiello, from New York, was listed as the No. 44 overall prospect in 2019. He originally signed with Penn State before competing with Nassau Community College.

His career features five New York state championships, three super 32 championships and two NJCAA All-America honors.

The Bears are coming off a huge season, with Andrew Alirez’s national championship.
