Philadelphia Eagles Employ Josh McCown As The League's First WFH Quarterback

The 2020 NFL offseason is turning out to be quite a peculiar affair. A raging pandemic, short preseason schedule, and multiple player opt-outs are just a few of the highlights from the last six months. Patrick Mahomes became the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history while George Kittle bagged a record deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Players were forced to train indoors amid the rampant spread of the coronavirus plague. Teams were forced to cut down rosters in order to deal with the current economic strain. NFL franchise, Philadelphia Eagles, found a new way to tackle the financial constraints. They have now signed the league’s first work-from-home quarterback in the form of veteran Josh McCown.

Philadelphia Eagles bring in veteran quarterback Josh McCown on practice squad roster

41-year old quarterback Josh McCown will join Doug Pederson’s team as a member of the practice squad. In doing so, McCown becomes the oldest player on a practice squad roster in NFL history. The Eagles will pay McCown a weekly wage of $12,000 to train at his home in Texas throughout the 2020 season. That makes him the first quarterback to essentially work-from-home amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

He played for the Eagles on three occasions. He starred in the Wildcard playoff game where Wentz was forced off due to an injury. Josh went for 18-of-24 for 174 yards as the Eagles suffered a 17-9 loss to Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks.

Josh McCown will be behind quarterbacks, Carson Wentz, Nate Sudfield, and Oklahoma recruit Jalen Hurts. He will mainly serve as a mentor for the Eagles squad members over the course of the season. The Philadelphia-based franchise has enough depth quarterback. They will push for a spot in the playoffs while playing under the tutelage of Doug Pederson.
