Super Mario Maker Wii U level uploads ending in 2021, Nintendo says

Nintendo is ending support for some online features in Super Mario Maker, the original Wii U game, next year. Players will no longer be able to upload courses in Super Mario Maker as of March 31, 2021, Nintendo said in a support notice on its website.

Super Mario Maker will be removed from the Nintendo eShop on Jan. 12, 2021, in accordance with the change. Nintendo said it will still be possible to play courses that were uploaded before the course upload feature is discontinued, and that owners will be able to redownload the game after its removal from the eShop.

Changes to the Wii U game will not affect Super Mario Maker 2 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo said. Nor will this affect Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, which did not support uploads of player-made courses.

Nintendo is also shutting down the Super Mario Maker Bookmark website that launched in December 2015. The closure of Super Mario Marker’s upload and the Bookmark website means that the game’s Course World will also remove players’ ability to update the ranking of liked courses and to look up bookmarked courses.

Super Mario Maker was originally released in September 2015 for Wii U. Nintendo released the sequel for Nintendo Switch in June 2019.
