President Trump on Thursday accused Twitter of tweaking its algorithms to make him look bad, saying on Twitter that the matter is “being studied now.”
“Twitter makes sure that Trending on Twitter is anything bad, Fake or not, about President Donald Trump,” the commander-in-chief wrote. “So obvious what they are doing. Being studied now!”
Trump took aim at his favorite social media platform a day after it flagged as “manipulated media” a tweet he sent that featured a video of Joe Biden — but with the song “Despacito” that the Democratic presidential nominee had been playing replaced with another song, NWA’s “F— Tha Police.”
On Tuesday, the Trump campaign asked Twitter to label a video posted by his rival’s campaign as “manipulated media,” for a clip it said took the president’s words out of context, according to Fox News.
The clip purported to contrast what the president says in public compared to in private on the coronavirus pandemic, accusing him of lying to the public.
One of the examples of Trump’s public comments in the video was from a campaign rally in February in which Trump appeared to be calling the pandemic a hoax — but the clip was cut out of context.
In the full quote, from February 28 at a rally in North Charleston, SC, Trump said, “Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus, you know that right, coronavirus, they’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs, you say, ‘how’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘oh not good, not good.’ They have no clue, they don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa … They can’t even count. They can’t count their votes!
“One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia, that didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax, that was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over, they’ve been doing it since you got in, it’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it, think of it, and this is their new hoax.”
