Twins vs. Athletics prediction: Minnesota the pick

The Minnesota Twins entered their home series against the Oakland Athletics with the worst winning percentage in MLB and will look to Jose Berrios on Saturday to get things going in the right direction.

Berrios has been significantly better at home than on the road. He has a 3.67 ERA and 30-18 record with a 3.71 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 0.8 home runs per nine innings allowed in Minnesota compared to a 21-22 record with a 4.61 ERA, 1.5 home runs per nine innings and a 2.42 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the road.

Oakland’s Cole Irvin will look to continue his breakthrough. He entered 2021 with a lifetime 6.75 ERA with 11.1 hits per nine innings allowed and has lowered that to a 3.29 ERA this season with 8.3 hits and 1.3 walks given up per nine innings.

Minnesota has not had issues scoring runs, averaging more than 4.7 per game, good for eighth in MLB, while the Athletics entered the series plating 4.1 runs per game.

The Twins entered the series a combined 0-11 in extra-inning and seven-inning games while going 12-12 with a +7 run differential in games that end in nine innings, and the Athletics had a -13 run differential despite a 23-16 record entering the series. That indicates regression is due.

The play: Twins, -130.
