Yankees get good news on DJ LeMahieu injury

It looks like DJ LeMahieu will avoid the injured list after all.

The Yankees infielder, who has been unavailable for the last three games because of an inflamed right big toe, is expected to be an option off the bench Wednesday against the Rays before returning to the lineup on Thursday against the Blue Jays.

LeMahieu, who was set to go through a full pregame workout on Wednesday, said he was feeling better after the three days off while receiving treatment, medicine and orthotics. He may have to manage the toe issue the rest of the year, but was confident he can play through it.

“Hopefully these three or four days off really puts it in the right direction,” LeMahieu said.

The Yankees have missed LeMahieu at the top of their lineup for the last three games – all of them losses in which they have scored one run combined. Overall, the team had lost 11 of 13 heading into Wednesday. But LeMahieu said the team’s struggles did not affect his decision to stay off the IL.

“The last three days, it’s definitely hard to watch and not be a part of it,” LeMahieu said. “But I tell them how I feel and we go from there.”
